It is a new reflex for many French people. Usually, not all small businesses are inclined to facilitate payment by contactless bank card, because of the costs. But with the risk of contamination with the Covid-19 coronavirus represented by coins and banknotes that pass from hand to hand, this practice is becoming more and more popular. “We are not going to disinfect the banknotes and coins. Here, the card, we know what path it has traveled”, indicates the customer of a bakery, Tuesday April 7.
Last week, this practice increased by 4%. For traders, this represents a significant financial challenge. “Right now, we are working on negotiating with the banks, for this very difficult period, lower costs, compared to small sums”, explains a baker.
