(In) Security Camera (2003)
Silvia Ruzanka, Ben Chang and Dmitry Strakovsky
The (In) Security Camera is a robotic surveillance camera with advanced computer vision software that tracks, zooms and tracks moving objects in its field of view. By deploying sophisticated artificial intelligence algorithms used today by the US military and internal security forces, it can assess threat levels in real time and react accordingly.
However, the camera is actually a little uncertain. Easily surprised by sudden movements, he is shy in front of strangers and avoids direct eye contact. This reversal of the relationship between the surveillance system and its subjects gives the machine an element of human personality and endearing, tragic and slightly disturbing fallibility.
