The proof ? On this one, we can see a tarot card, where there is a horde of yellow men protesting. As is often the case, conspiracy theories are based on an exaggerated interpretation of certain facts. So when the authors of this theory indicate that this cover prophesies the year 2018, they are mistaken.
The special issue “The World in 2017” was published in late November 2016 to predict the year 2017. If we look in more detail at the tarot card, we can see that the yellow characters carry banners of rejection of the Transatlantic Free Trade Agreement (TTIP).Inside the magazine, several articles correspond to the illustrations of the cover. So a folder“The Trump Planet” responds to the image of Donald Trump sitting on the globe. With regard to yellow protesters anti-TTIP, in a text entitled “Anti-globalists on the move”, its author predicts that “A reaction against free trade and international capitalism will finally be confirmed”.
Désintox contacted the editor-in-chief of The Economist. Amused, he replied that there was often “Crazy conspiracy theories around the covers of” The World In … “Of course, all that makes no sense, but in this case it's very entertaining, I can only wish we had such powers of prediction! “ A power that all journalists would like to have!
